Second-Degree Murder Charge

A 32-year-old woman from Lorraine, KS is facing a charge of second-degree murder after a two-car crash early Friday morning. According to Captain Jim Hughes with the Saline County Sheriff’s Office, Kayla Errebo was taken into custody following a head-on collision near the intersection of South Reese Road and K-140 Highway around 5:35 am Friday. Deputies say 55-year-old Deanna Sommerfeld of Brookville died at the scene.  61-year-old Mark Sommerfeldof Brookville was transported by EMS to Salina Regional Health Center with serious but non-life -threatening injuries. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Sommerfeld’s Chevy truck was traveling east on K-140 and was struck head on by Errebo’s westbound Jeep Grand Cherokee. Errebo suffered minor injuries and left the scene but was later located at an address in Ellsworth and arrested around 8:26am. She’s now facing charges that could include, murder in the second degree, failure to report an injury accident, circumvention of ignition interlock device and probation violation.

Currently K140 is closed to thru traffic at Link Rd and Reese Rd.  Saline County Sheriff’s Office anticipates the opening of the road in several hours.
