Moran to Vote to Certify the Election

Jason VinduskaJanuary 5, 2021

Sen. Jerry Moran will vote to certify the 2020 presidential election results. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) says as a conservative Republican he must strictly adhere to the U.S. Constitution. He said the Constitution clearly limits the role of Congress regarding presidential elections to the counting of electoral votes that have been certified by states. He said the states have the sole authority to decide and submit electors. “To vote to reject these state-certified electoral votes would be to act outside the bounds of the Constitution, which I will not do,” said Moran. According to Moran, President Trump had the Constitutional right to challenge the results of the election, which he publicly supported. However, he said in every instance, the judgments were clear and no judge or Supreme Court justice determined there was enough evidence to change the results of the election.
