BREAKING NEWS

Ike’s (Virtual) Book Club

John AndersonNovember 4, 2021

There is a special comradeship that exists between men that have seen the sights of battlefields on a foreign shore. It is one that is never broken throughout the longest of lives.”

~ Dwight D. Eisenhower, Aug. 5, 1952

Abilene, Kan. – The next virtual book club will meet November 9 at 7 p.m. central time. The program is free and open to the public — join us online or by phone. The November book selection is The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien. This novel about his experiences in Vietnam has sold well over two million copies worldwide and was a finalist for both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award. This book, part memoir and part fiction, is considered one of the best books about the Vietnam War. Join this program as if you were meeting your friends in a cozy café or living room with a glass of wine — even if you have not read the book. The discussion will be led by Gene T. Chávez, founder and president of Chávez and Associates, Kansas City. He received his Ed.D. in the philosophical foundations of education from Arizona State University. Dr. Chávez is a former member of the Humanities Kansas board of directors and has been leading TALK discussions since 1996. The entire reading list schedule is available on the Eisenhower Presidential Library’s website (www.eisenhowerlibrary.gov).
