Sheriff’s lieutenant takes plea.

A former Dickinson County Sheriff’s lieutenant accused of theft of evidence pleaded guilty and agreed to 5 days in jail, 24 months supervised probation, a $5,000 fine and restitution of $6,760.29 in the Eight Judicial District Court at a hearing on Thursday. Gregory R. Swanson was accused of theft of cash seized as evidence between Aug. 30, 2012 and Jan. 19, 2017, destroying or tampering with concealed evidence and solicitation of deputy Brent Gering of the sheriff’s office to commit official misconduct. The plea agreement was also accepted by the Kansas Attorney General’s Office. Judge Robert Fairchild has set a hearing for sentencing at 11 a.m. on July 11. In the agreement, Swanson will receive a seven-month prison sentence that will be suspended and two years’ supervised probation. The other two charges will be dismissed.
