The Solomon High School FFA Chapter has partnered with community leaders and the American Legion to honor local veterans with a Solomon Veterans Memorial. The Memorial includes insignias from each branch of the military services. A laser-etched flag and eagle are on the center tablet. The tablets on each side will have inscribed quotes from General Dwight D. Eisenhower and General John J. Pershing. The three black granite tablets rest on an 11-foot gray granite base. The U.S. World War 1 Centennial Commission and the Pritzker Military Museum & Library have announced the final “50 WW1 Centennial Memorials in the USA.” The Solomon Kansas Veterans Memorial has been selected in the 100 Cities / 100 Memorials program as a grant recipient and will receive a $2,000 grant from the Commission to help pay for the project. This memorial includes a WW1 time capsule designed by Lynn Peterson of Peterson Monuments. The Solomon Veterans Monument will be unveiled during a dedication ceremony in the Solomon City park on June 2, 2018 at 9:30 am.
